Tour of SAPOL Motor Museum

The Social Committee has organised a tour of the SAPOL Motor Museum at the Road Safety Centre (part of the Thebarton Barracks) on Friday 15 November at 6:30 pm followed by a BBQ (sorry, strictly no alcohol).

This will be a joint event between SAMROA and the Walkerville All Cars Club (Walky). Numbers are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come basis.

If you wish to attend please email Peter Tann (treasurer@samroa.org.au). As numbers are limited, if you book a place and subsequently find you are unable to attend, please let me know ASAP in case someone else would like to attend. Please refer to the attached Map and parking instructions. Our host for the evening will be Sergeant John Illingworth (without Humphry B Bear), who some of you will have seen competing at Mallala events. I hope you haven’t met more formally!

Look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers Peter Tann

AUSTIN 7 CLUB OF SA CELEBRATES MILESTONE

SAMROA congratulates the Austin 7 Club of South Australia on their 60th anniversary and their service to motorsport thru their timing team and Modern Regularity events, and for those memorable Mallala Masters events. Below is from the CAMS website.

The Austin 7 Club of South Australia is having a big celebration in October and rightly so, for in 2013 the club celebrates its 60th year.

The club has big things planned to celebrate, with the festivities starting 20 October.

A Static Display at the seaside suburb of Glenelg, a 5 day York Peninsula Tour, a Modern regularity round at Mallala and what would a Birthday be without a big birthday bash?

The Austin 7 Club of S.A is staging its Official Birthday Dinner at Marion Hotel on 27 October.

In 1953, a group of people keen to foster motoring activities centred on the Austin Seven motor car, got together and the Austin Seven Club of S.A. was formed.

They rebuilt their Austins for road use and at weekends used them in road trials and sprints.

Since those early days, the club has grown into one of the larger car clubs in South Australia and its members have been prominent in local and Australian motor sport.

The Austin 7 Club of S.A. Inc. is an ‘All Cars Club’. It caters for those people who like to get involved in restoration of vehicles and motor sport.

The club caters for members who have an interest in rebuilding and restoring all ‘old’ cars – not necessarily only Austin Sevens.

Once rebuilt and running, these cars are used on touring runs, held each month. These runs are either organised by the Club or run in conjunction with other clubs.

The Club has a service which offers members assistance in obtaining spares for Austin Sevens.

The club organises regular events at Mallala during the year as well as many other activities.

Many members of the club are involved with vehicle restoration and participate in regular motoring runs.

Vale Greg Smith

It’s with sadness that we pass on the news of Greg Smith’s passing.  Greg passed away early Monday morning in his sleep.

The thoughts of SAMROA are with Greg’s wife Lyn and family at this time.  Greg loved his motorsport wanted to be part of events whenever and however he could.

We will send a card to his family.

Annual dinner – last chance

7th September

Start time 7pm

The venue is the Royal Hotel at Kent Town.

Live Band – The Rejuvenators

Ticket prices same as last year. Members $45, non members $55.

As in previous years, the price will include a drink on arrival with subsequent

drinks for your own expense.  A bottle red and white on each table.

We will again offer the ability to pay progressively up to the event.

Reserve your ticket now by contacting Peter Tann (treasurer@samroa.org.au)

First Aid Training

The Training & Competition committee have planned a First Aid Course on Sunday 22 September.  This will be professionally conducted by First Aid Pro and the venue will be confirmed soon, at this stage, most likely the Sporting Car Club.  This course is appropriate for all ages including new comers & those looking to renew their qualifications.   You will qualify as a Senior First Aider, which would not only benefit motorsport, however also your normal daily life.

Open to all CAMS clubs.

  • SAMROA Members $30
  • Non SAMROA Members $100 – approach your CAMS club and ask if they will subsidize the cost.

A SAMROA Member plus a family member is only $130 which is great value! Most of us with teenage kids of driving age. I believe all drivers should learn first aid before they get out on the road by themselves, plus, I’m not getting any younger and they may save my life.

You can add your name to this event is in the members database or contact Paul Bonnet tcc@samroa.org.au for help or for more details.

Vale Chris Good

Chris passed away in her sleep on Saturday, pain free.  To all who knew Chris, she will be sadly missed. However we must not dwell on the loss of her life but celebrate all that she achieved. Please join me in this celebration on Friday 2nd Aug at Mattiske Funeral Chapel, 2 Wiltshire St Salisbury at 10.30am. This service is to be conducted by David Vaughan who is the SA Motorsport Chaplin. Peter has told me this is an open service, everyone is welcome. Both Peter & Chris have been Motorsport Officials for a long time. Our love & prayers are with Peter and his family.

Kindest Regards
Paul Hart
