Shannons Nationals 25th to 27th April

Hi Everyone,

Many thanks to all who have put their names down for this event, which commences on Anzac Day with practice, then continues over the weekend.

This event is one of the best events for the season, with categories such as Kerrick Sports Sedans,V8 Touring Cars, Porsche GT3’s, Formula Fords, and Super Six Touring Cars making up the programme. We encourage you to come out and enjoy the racing “up close”, and to gain further experience working with the lights based at each flag point.

We have been told that this will be a “lights only” event, which will be a first for most of us.

Numbers for Sunday in particular are a bit light, so we encourage/ask for a few more names to be added to the database.

The cut-off date for putting your name down has been extended until 23rd April, so if you haven’t done so yet, please add your name to the list before then.

Regards to all,

Adam Litchfield (Chief Flag)

Ray McGuiness (Assistant Chief Flag)

State Championship Round rescheduled for 22nd March

Great news! The event organizers have been able to reschedule Round 1 to March 22nd. Apart from having another serve of the homemade cake, we can finally get a chance to operate the new light system and do what we love doing.

Lets show everyone that we can provide a full team, even after the Clipsal and AGP and a number of other activities that are on in Adelaide at that time! For those not doing the AGP, another chance to get some practice in before the Shannons.

The database is now open to add your name to the gate list or contact me directly (see below for contact details)

Briefing time : TBA (assume it will be 08:00 at this early stage)

Adelaide Motorsport Festival

Not since 1995, has Formula 1 action hit the streets of Adelaide in the size or scale we will be seeing at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival is a virtual “museum-in-motion”. A two-day festival that draws upon South Australia’s rich motorsport history and celebrates and re-enacts motorsport competition of a by-gone era. Grand Prix cars from the 1930s to the 1990s are the main focus for the inaugural Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the event is rounded out with a diverse field of historic touring cars, sports cars and classic motorcycles that are welcome to enter as well as displays from some of the greatest classic cars from across the years.

Get up close to all the action and make a significant contribution to an event that preserves motorsport history for future South Australians.  To register to became an official click here  or follow this link http://www.adelaidemotorsportfestival.com.au/#!become-a-voluteer/c14x3

Tour of SAPOL Motor Museum

The Social Committee has organised a tour of the SAPOL Motor Museum at the Road Safety Centre (part of the Thebarton Barracks) on Friday 15 November at 6:30 pm followed by a BBQ (sorry, strictly no alcohol).

This will be a joint event between SAMROA and the Walkerville All Cars Club (Walky). Numbers are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come basis.

If you wish to attend please email Peter Tann (treasurer@samroa.org.au). As numbers are limited, if you book a place and subsequently find you are unable to attend, please let me know ASAP in case someone else would like to attend. Please refer to the attached Map and parking instructions. Our host for the evening will be Sergeant John Illingworth (without Humphry B Bear), who some of you will have seen competing at Mallala events. I hope you haven’t met more formally!

Look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers Peter Tann

AUSTIN 7 CLUB OF SA CELEBRATES MILESTONE

SAMROA congratulates the Austin 7 Club of South Australia on their 60th anniversary and their service to motorsport thru their timing team and Modern Regularity events, and for those memorable Mallala Masters events. Below is from the CAMS website.

The Austin 7 Club of South Australia is having a big celebration in October and rightly so, for in 2013 the club celebrates its 60th year.

The club has big things planned to celebrate, with the festivities starting 20 October.

A Static Display at the seaside suburb of Glenelg, a 5 day York Peninsula Tour, a Modern regularity round at Mallala and what would a Birthday be without a big birthday bash?

The Austin 7 Club of S.A is staging its Official Birthday Dinner at Marion Hotel on 27 October.

In 1953, a group of people keen to foster motoring activities centred on the Austin Seven motor car, got together and the Austin Seven Club of S.A. was formed.

They rebuilt their Austins for road use and at weekends used them in road trials and sprints.

Since those early days, the club has grown into one of the larger car clubs in South Australia and its members have been prominent in local and Australian motor sport.

The Austin 7 Club of S.A. Inc. is an ‘All Cars Club’. It caters for those people who like to get involved in restoration of vehicles and motor sport.

The club caters for members who have an interest in rebuilding and restoring all ‘old’ cars – not necessarily only Austin Sevens.

Once rebuilt and running, these cars are used on touring runs, held each month. These runs are either organised by the Club or run in conjunction with other clubs.

The Club has a service which offers members assistance in obtaining spares for Austin Sevens.

The club organises regular events at Mallala during the year as well as many other activities.

Many members of the club are involved with vehicle restoration and participate in regular motoring runs.
